Patrick’s Tonsils Were Removed

We arrived at 6am Saturday, July 10th to have Patrick’s tonsils removed. The Dr. also put a tube back inside his right ear.  They started around 8:00 and gave him back to us around 10:20. Patrick ate popsicles and macaroni and cheese on the day of surgery. Day 2 was not as good. He went until 6p.m. without drinking but G.G. was able to get him started drinking again. He had 101.5 fever for about an hour Sunday.Photo0264

Monday was much better. He slept most of the day and then ate some banana and a little yogurt. Through the night he ran an average of 102.5 fever but continued to drink very well.

Tuesday Nana and I took Patrick to Dr. Danna because of high fever. Danna gave Patrick a shot of rocephin and then sent us to St. Francis CHC where we completed blood work and x-rays. He said he was looking for pneumonia or bronchitis. Danna called us later that day and told us to come to his office for rocephin shots for the next several days. He thinks he has bronchitis.

Patrick started feeling better and played a game of Candyland Shapes and then his G.G. gave him a bath. Through the night he kept a fever of about 102 but continued to drink.

Wednesday morning we noticed white spots an Patrick’s tongue and his cough was deeper. G.G. and I took him for his rocephin shot and he slept during the two hour wait. Danna said the white spots on his tongue were from lack of food and to force him to eat. Patrick continued to feel better throughout the day and started eating. We could really notice how much the rocephin was helping.

Thursday morning Morgan and I took Patrick to Danna’s office for another shot of rocephin. Patrick did good so we went to the library for Art Time. Other than waking up on the wrong side of the bed, Patrick was feeling much better on day six.

This was Patrick napping on day six. He saw a commercial for sunglasses and insisted that it was too bright, in his room with the lights off, for him.

Day seven had its ups and downs. Patrick seemed to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. I think it was from lack of energy. We are still having to force him to eat a little each day.

Saturday, July 17th was day eight. Patrick felt good when he woke up so I took the kids to play at the park. After ten minutes Patrick was ready to lay down. We then went to the main library and made puzzles but Patrick was very sleepy so we did not stay long. He took a short nap on Grandma Clark's couch and then finished his nap at home. He  was very irritable on day eight and cried about the pain quite often. Dinner and Nana and Gramps' was cut short because of his crying.

Day nine started off well. Patrick ate some pop tart and ice cream on his own. Yes, I did say on his own. I finally did not have to force him. He continued to eat throughout the day and started drinking orange juice again. He even went with me to the grocery store. We think he is on the mend!

On the tenth day Patrick ate an entire pop tart, lots of ice cream, popcorn, gold fish and some macaroni and cheese. He felt better most of the day but still experienced some ups and downs.

Day eleven and twelve were much better. His appetite came back and he could eat without coughing and crying that it hurt. Patrick also started sleeping better at night!
